Google to Launch ‘Andromeda OS’ — An Android-Chrome OS Hybrid

image

Google’s long-rumored Android-Chrome hybrid operating system is expected to debut at the company’s upcoming hardware event on October 4.
The company has been working to merge the two OSes for roughly 3 years with a release planned for 2017, but an “early version” to show things off to the world in 2016.
Android + Chrome = Andromeda
The hybrid OS, currently nicknamed ‘Andromeda,’ could be come on a new Pixel laptop as well as Huawei Nexus tablet from Google by Q3 2017, if not sooner, according to new leaks from
9to5Google and Android Police .
Android + Chrome = Andromeda
The laptop, officially codenamed “Bison” and nicknamed “Pixel 3,” is a reference to the “Chromebook Pixel,” but since this edition is not running Chrome operating system, one can not call it a “Chromebook” anymore.
Andromeda is separate from the company’s Fuchsia OS, which is focused on Internet-of-Thing (IoT) devices. Moreover, the report also makes it clear that Andromeda “is [an entirely] distinct effort from Google’s current campaign to bring Android apps to Chromebooks.” So, don’t get confused.
Rumored specs suggest Bison is expected to pack a 12.3-inch display with a ‘tablet’ mode and stylus and reportedly powered by an Intel M3 processor like Apple’s 12-inch MacBook, or an Intel Core i5.
Bison is expected to have two models with 32GB or 128GB of internal storage, and 8GB or 16GB of RAM.
Other features could include two USB-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, a backlit keyboard, quad microphones, a glass trackpad, and a battery that lasts around 10 hours.
For more details about the new hybrid operating system, you need to wait for two more weeks for Google’s October 4 event that is set to launch a Google’s new hardware product line, including ” Google Wi-Fi ” router, Google Home, the refreshed 4K-capable Chromecast rumored to be called Chromecast Ultra, and a “Daydream” VR headset.

Teen Hacker Jailbreaks Apple iPhone 7 within 24 Hours

image

Tech News Nation: Not even a month has passed since the release of the Apple iPhone 7 and the iOS 10. And, a 19-year-old hacker, known as qwertyoruiop, has managed to jailbreak the iPhone 7 in just 24 hours. He tweeted the screenshot evidence of the jaibreak. However, he won’t be disclosing the jailbreak process until Apple releases the relevant patches.
ailbreaking iPhones has been there since the time of the original iPhone. In 2007, George Hotz (Geohot), an American hacker jailbroke the original iPhone. His motivation was to remove carrier restrictions from the device. Nowadays, you don’t have to be a hacker to jailbreak your iOS device. We have advanced, easy-to-use and completely untethered jailbreaks.
Luca Todesco (qwertyoruiop), has managed to jailbreak the new iPhone 7 . It took him around 24 hours to exploit some bugs and vulnerabilities in the iOS 10 running on the iPhone 7. He was able to gain “root” privileges on the Apple device.
“They definitely made my life harder,” he told Motherboard. “The iPhone 7 is a step in the right direction. Obviously, it’s not 100 percent secure—like nothing else is.”
Todesco won’t be revealing how he jailbroke the iPhone 7 until Apple releases a patch for the vulnerabilities. He is planning to submit his finding in Apple’s bug bounty program. Till then, he will work on making the jailbreak smoother.

image

It is believed that Todesco is the first person to have successfully jailbroken the iPhone 7 but other people will figure out the method soon. It’s possible, some people might’ve done that already but they haven’t revealed their findings.
“I don’t but given his track record, I wouldn’t be surprised,” an Apple spokesperson said when asked if Apple knows whether Todesco’s jailbreak is legit.
Todesco is not a first-time jailbreaker. He is a renowned and trusted name in the bug hunter community. In August, he jailbroke the iPhone 6S running iOS 9.3.4 and tweeted the image.

Wow, Turkish Company Creates Transformers Out Of A BMW 3-Series

image

Tech News Nation: This is amazing..
The famous Autobots from the Transformers movie series are real now. A Turkish company named Letvision has developed its own transformers known as Letrons. ANTIMON is the first one which is actually a BMW 3-Series.
e thought Transformers were only confined to the movie series. But a Turkish company, Letvision, actually went ahead to fulfill the dream of millions of people around the world. To design a car that transforms into an Optimus Prime brother.
Letvision calls their family of transformers as Letrons. The first member of the Letrons family is ANTIMON which is actually a BMW 3-Series. It was completed in 8 months by a team of 12 engineers and 4 supporting technicians.
Watch Video: http://youtu.be/2e6BlH_SP7k
As expected, the ANTIMON is not that much advanced as the transformers we have seen in the movies. It can be converted from a normal car to a standing Autobot with movable hands but you can’t enjoy a ride in the modified car. The car can be driven using a remote controller but it’s not fit for normal traffic conditions. The car has an electric engine, the creators of Letrons hint the possibility of a driveable version in the future.
It is not that the ANTIMON is a standing structure of the metal. It has interaction abilities allowing him to perform speech and movement in real time. It can move its fingers, wrists, neck, and hands.
The Letrons can’t walk, as of now. The company is expecting appropriate funding to carry on further research to give walking abilities to the Letrons. Also, ANTIMON isn’t alone, there are other models they’ve been working on, namely, BIZMUT, ARGON, WOLFRAM, and TANFAL.

FBI Director — You Should Cover Your Webcam With Tape

FBI Director — You Should Cover Your Webcam With Tape

image

Should you put a tape or a sticker over the lens of your laptop’s webcam? Yes, even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and FBI Director James Comey do that. Covering your laptop’s webcam might be a hell cheap and good idea to guard against hackers and intruders who might want to watch your private life and environment through your devices. In fact, Comey recently came out defending his own use of tape to cover his personal laptop’s webcam.

People Are Responsible for Their Safety, Security & Privacy.

During a conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, when Comey was asked that he still put tape over his cameras at home, he replied:”Heck yeah, heck yeah. And also, I get mocked for a lot of things, and I am much mocked for that, but I hope people lock their cars… lock your doors at night. I have an alarm system. If you have an alarm system you should use it, I use mine.”Comey went on to explain that it was common practice at the FBI and other government offices to cover computers and laptops’ webcams with tape or any physical cover.”It’s not crazy that the FBI Director cares about personal security as well,” he continued. “If you go into any government office, we all have our little camera things that sit on top of the screen, they all have a little lid that closes down on them, you do that, so people who do not have authority don’t look at you, I think that’s a good thing.”Comey believes that putting a cover over webcams is one of the “sensible things” that everyone should be doing to”take responsibility for their own safety and security.”While this practice is often made fun of, tapping your device’s webcams is a good take away for you to adopt. We know the FBI and NSA’s ability to spread malware and turn on device’s webcam to spy on targets.Edward Snowden Leaks revealed the NSA’s Optic Nerve operation that was carried out to capture webcam images every 5 minutes from random Yahoo users, and in just six months, images of 1.8 Million users’ were captured and stored on the government servers in 2008.

Internet of Things: Security Nightmare

However, putting a tape over the lens of your computer’s webcam would not solve the problem, especially in this era when we are surrounded by so many Internet-connected devices that are a security nightmare. Due to the insecure implementation, these Internet-connected or Internet of Things (IoTs) devices, including Security Cameras, are so vulnerable that hackers are routinely hijacking them and using them as weapons in cyber attacks. So it is far more easy for hackers to hack your security cameras, instead of your laptop’s webcam, to keep track on you and your environment.
Do you feel the need to use a tape over your webcam?

A Wearable Electricity Generator .

Researchers at North Carolina State University have created a system🤔 that generates electricity via a wearable device – a body-conforming patch. It can generate 20 μW of power per centimetre squared while previous systems generated only 1μW or less. The 2mm thick device consists of a conductive flexible layer worn on the skin & prevents heat from escaping. They now want to embed the system into health tools so that vital signs can be measured without needing a recharge. Daryoosh Vashaee associate professor at NC State Uni said. “The goal of ASSIST is to make wearable technologies that can be used for long-term health monitoring, such as devices that track heart health or monitor physical and environmental variables to predict and prevent asthma attacks.”

The website is taking this decision, probably, due to the pressure of copyright activists and law enforcement authorities. Meanwhile, other torrent websites continue to exist and aid the digital pirates.
opular torrent website TorrentHound has decided to pack its bags and cease its operations. This volunteer decision comes in the wake of the recent demise of Kickasstorrents and Torrentz.
TorrentHound continued to grow and attract millions of monthly users since its inception in 2007.  However, it looks like the website owners have decided to shut it down.
Hinting the decision, TorrentHound founder informed TorrentFreak with a tiny message — “Finito”.

In its farewell message on the website, you can see some “not terrible” places left for torrents, including the likes of The Pirate Bay, Extratorrent, and more. It looks like TorrentHound was facing some pressure from copyright activists and legal authorities.
In the past, TorrentHound has been targeted repeatedly in legal notices and complaints. The website was already blocked in multiple countries.
This recent development leaves the users with other torrent websites that were already enjoying traffic boost due to the decease of other top websites.

Using Facebook At Work May Slowdown Your Nation’s Economy.

Using Facebook At Work May Slowdown Your Nation’s Economy.

image

There are various reasons that have contributed to the decreased productivity of people over the years. One of them is the use of social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Twitter, IMO, etc. This has been the cause of the slowing economy of nations like the United States, Ghana, etc.
the few minutes you add in your coffee break to check your Facebook, WhatsApp or Twitter is slowing the down the economy. Ever since the Great Recession in the US, a decrease in the productivity of the people has been observed. And usage of the interesting social interaction platforms has fueled the decrease.
In the last century, the productivity numbers on the US soil increased at a pace of around 2.3% a year, but the last five years have observed a snail-paced productivity growth of less than 0.5% a year. Productivity is essential for most of the people and it “is the well from which wages come and wages are, for most people, the well from which their standard of living comes,” says Professor Alan Blinder of Princeton.
Professor Blinder says that the output per hour is directly related to the standard of living of an individual. The more work one does more money comes in and it elevates the standard of living. “It takes about a generation or so to double your income,” he says. Due to the productivity boost in the last century, the standard of living escalated (almost double) with every next generation.
What factors are stopping people from being more productive?
One reason put forward by Blinder is the lack of proper apparatus for the workers. Companies are not equipping their workers with modern machines and better work environments.
Another thing that needs to be considered is that companies, although, earning great profits, aren’t investing much. Even if the money can be borrowed. The wounds of the Great Recession might be making them reluctant to do so. “Well then how come they’re hiring so many people?” asks Blinder.
Economist Robert Gordon has a viewpoint on that. The reason is the absence of any breakthrough technology – like jet engines, electricity, etc in the past century. These things are important in increasing the productivity of the workers.
As far as the IT and computers sector is concerned, Gordon says that “the main benefits of the IT revolution have already occurred. There are just not as many fruitful ways to invest.” Since the 1990s, the investments in this field have been on a downward track. “And my diagnosis is that people have the computers they need,” says Gordon.
We can agree with what Gordon says. There is a saturation point in the computers, and most recently, mobile phones. Every year, the devices come stuffed with a powerful processor and some extra ram, and a bunch of sensors.
Now, the reason which most of us would ignore to acknowledge is the impact of social networking in our work lives. We can’t resist replying to a facebook comment or like an Instagram photo. People do manage to steal some minutes of their rather “busy” schedule to make a few posts on a variety of social accounts they operate.
“Things like … tweeting, Snapchatting, things that to me are unlikely to raise industrial productivity and may, by the way, reduce that. I’m thinking of things like Facebooking when on the job and other things like that,” says Blinder.
The social media along with other smartphone apps designed to make our lives simpler might be the reason we face trouble in reaching the work deadlines, reducing productivity. This may’ve lead to the growth slowdown in the US. In fact, we can relate it to other countries as well.
