Massive Google Phishing Hack!

Don’t click that link‼

If you get an email today sharing a Google Docs file with you, don’t click it – you may accidentally hand over your Gmail inbox and your contacts to a mystery attacker.
The malicious email contains what appears to be a link to a Google Doc file.

This leads to a legitimate Google.com page asking you to authorize “Google Docs” to access to your Gmail account.

Once you do allow it to access your account, it grabs your contacts, inbox and sends out more spam to all your contacts.

The attack has spread like wildfire, and is already at an inbox near you!

If you already clicked the link, you need to go back to your Google account and “Revoke Access” to the app. To do that:

  1. Go to your Google account management page here: https://goo.gl/DVL1GM

  2. If you see an app called Google Docs, click on it to opt to revoke permission for the app to access your account.

  3. Then change your password, just to be safe.

How to show Viewed WhatsApp status files on your Android device.

Most at times you find people asking you to send them a file you’ve used on your WhatsApp status, be it image or video.

What we must know is that anytime we view someone’s status it’s been downloaded onto our device in a hidden folder(s). We must show it before we can see these files.

Follow the steps below..

#Go to file manager
#WhatsApp folder

#Media folder

#Options

#Choose “Show hidden files”

Now go to status folder and you’ll find all status you’ve viewed .

No need to ask the person to send it to you cus you’ve downloaded it already immediately you viewed it.

NB: You have to move the files to a different location (e.g images or videos folder) else they will disappear after 24hrs

Facebook begins testing reactions in Messenger, including a Dislike button

As first noted by TechCrunch and later confirmed by Facebook, the new reactions feature in Messenger is similar to the expanded reactions that are available in response to posts in the Newsfeed.

What’s different about the reactions available in Messenger compared to the Newsfeed, however, is the inclusion of a Dislike button. This has been one of the most-requested features for Facebook, but the company has routinely said it would not add a Dislike button for Newsfeed posts.

If the feature is met with a positive response (or reaction), however, the company says that it will expand it to all users and presumably to all platforms, like iOS, etc.

How to display Delete Confirmation Dialog in Windows 10?

You might have noticed that later versions of Windows including 8 and 10 don’t ask before sending to files to the Recycle Bin after you’ve set Windows to delete permanently, it won’t ask you before deleting the files permanently.

When you press the delete button, your file will be gone forever without any prompt.
If you want to see a prompt before deletion you’ve to set that too.

Here are the simple steps to follow.

delete confirmation windows

You can get back the delete prompt in Windows 10 using the following steps:

  1. Go to your Desktop.
  2. Open Recycle Bin properties.
  3. Tick the checkbox for Display delete confirmation dialog.
    Display Delete Confirmation
Note: You don’t have to do this for every drive.
  4. Click Apply to save the settings. Click Ok to save and exit the Recycle Bin properties.

Now, Windows will ask you before deleting any file, as it did in Windows 7. This options also works if you set the files to go to the Recycle Bin.

How to delete files permanently in Windows 10 Whithout using Shift+Delete?

When you delete a file or folder in Microsoft Windows, it goes to a special folder called Recycle Bin. Recycle Bin allows you to restore your deleted files, in case, you change your mind at a later stage. The file continues to stay there along with other deleted files, still consuming space on your hard drive, until you clear them using the Empty Recycle Bin option.

But if you fail to clear the Recycle Bin at regular intervals, it will start taking up valuable space on your hard drive. Windows allows you delete the permanently, without sending them to Recycle Bin.

Now, one way to do this is by using the Shift+Delete key combination. But if you don’t want to keep the deleted files in the Recycle Bin, you can enable Windows to automatically delete the files permanently

This method has been tried in Windows 10.

Follow the steps below

  1. Go to the Desktop on your Windows 10 OS.
  2. Right Click the Recycle Bin folder.
  3. Click the Properties option.
  4. In the Properties, select the drive for which you want to delete the files permanently.
  5. Now, under Settings for selected location, click the radio button for Don’t move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted.
recyclebin1Note: You need to do the above steps for all individual drives for which you don’t want the files to go to the Recycle Bin. For instance, in my case I have only one drive, C. You might be having more than one.
  6. Click Apply to save the settings. Click Okto save and exit Recycle Bin properties.

You have set Windows to delete your files permanently. Keep in mind, it won’t be easy to recover these files after deleting them. So, use this feature wisely, else, you’ll end up losing something important. 😱😱😱

Kaspersky builds “Hackproof” OS

A built-from-scratch operating system was in the development for the last 14 years at the Kaspersky Lab. Known as Kaspersky OS – doesn’t borrow anything from Linux – it’s a secure OS based on microkernel architecture and aimed for infrastructure and IoT devices.

K aspersky Lab, a Russian cybersecurity and antivirus company, has announced their new operating system which was in development for the last 14 years. Dubbed as Kaspersky OS, it has made its debut on a Kraftway Layer 3 Switch.

Not many details have been revealed by the CEO Eugene Kaspersky in his blog post. The GUI-less OS – as it appears in the image – has been designed from scratch and Eugene said it doesn’t have “even the slightest smell of Linux”. He actually tagged “Kaspersky OS being non-Linux” as one of the three main distinctive features he mentioned.

The other two features he briefly described are rather fascinating. The first feature is that the Kaspersky OS is based on microkernel architecture, which basically means using the minimum amount of ingredients to bake your own operating system. The OS can be custom-designed as per requirements by using different modification blocks. This is similar to what Cyanogen Inc. has implemented in the module-based form of Cyanogen Modular OS for smartphones.

The second distinctive feature is the inbuilt security system which can control application behavior and OS modules. It touts Kaspersky OS as practically unhackable, unless a cyber-baddie has a quantum computer – which will be required to crack the digital signature of the platform – at his disposal.

Eugene puts emphasis on the fact that cyber threats have become a serious concern than before. They have realized that their operating system should cater different applications like acting as a support for the development of protected industrial control systems. Also, in the creation of protected embedded devices including

IoT (Internet of Things).

“I’m hoping it’s obvious by now how protecting the IoT and, of course, critical infrastructure (industry, transport, telecoms, etc.) from IT threats is simply mandatory,” Eugene said after quoting the example of the recent DDoS attacks on Dyn DNS – the 1Tbps attack which took down almost half of the internet.

“I also hope it’s clear that it’s better – no matter how difficult – to build IoT/infrastructure devices from the very beginning in such

How to YouTube videos with VLC player

Tech News Nation

Free and open source VLC media player has many hidden features that only a few people know about. One such thing is the method to download YouTube videos using VLC. You simply need to copy the download link in the media information option and grab the YouTube video using your web browser. In this article, I’m sharing a detailed method on the same topic.
VLC is one of the most popular media players around. This free and open source media player became popular a long time ago as it was one of the first ones that “played anything”. Its simple UI can disguise the new users who might consider it less advanced. Few people know that VLC media player packs a wide range of features.

In this article, we’ll learn how to download videos from YouTube using your favorite VLC media player.

Steps to download YouTube videos using VLC?

The method to download YouTube videos using VLC media player is very simple. Here are the steps that you need to follow to complete this task:

1. The first step involves opening some YouTube video and copying its URL from your web browser’s address bar. Here, I opened the Fossbytes YouTube channel and looked for the how to make Chrome faster tutorial. After that, I simply copied the path of the video from the address bar.

2. Now you need to open VLC media player on your computer. I’ve written this tutorial using Windows 10. So, the appearance and placement of different options might differ from Mac or Linux PC.

3. In VLC, find the Open Capture Device option and click on it. It should open a new window.

4. Now click on the Network tab and paste the copied URL in the empty field that’s titled.”Please enter a network URL. Now click Play button.”

5. This should soon start playing the YouTube video in your VLC media player. You can use the media controls in VLC just like the YouTube controls and use them to play, pause, or stop the playback.

6. Now, in Tools option, click on Codec information.

7. It’ll open the Current Media Information window that’ll show codec information. There’ll be a link under Location. It’s basically the download link and you need to copy it.

8. Now you need to open your web browser and paste the copied download link in the address bar and hit Enter. This would either start the video playback in your web browser or directly show you the download dialog. Simply click on the Save button to grab the video.

9. Here’s the downloaded video

Apple loosing popularity, 9 of 10 people use Android

According to the Strategy Analytics Smartphone market share report for Q3 2016, Android OS is leading the smartphone market with 87.5% share. This puts an Android device into the hands of every 9 out of 10 smartphone users. The global smartphone sales have increased but the situation is reverse for Apple.

trategy Analytics has released the latest report, Global S martphone OS Market Share by Region: Q3 2016 . According to the report , 375.4 million smartphones were sold globally in the third quarter of 2016. This includes devices running Android, iOS, Windows 10 Mobile and other operating systems.

The number of devices sold in Q3 2015 was 354.2 million and Strategy Analytics considers this as smartphone industry’s fastest growth rate for a year. The boost in the smartphone device sales can be credited to the rising adoption in developing countries like India, South Africa, countries in Middle East Africa, and others. In recent years, smartphone makers have observed India as a high potential market and have been developing specially crafted products according to the needs of the Indian customers.

The number of Android devices sold globally in Q3 2016 are 328.6 (from 298 million in Q3 2015) observing a year-over-year growth of 10.3%. Apple recently announced the sale of its 1 billionth iPhone but the figures for Q3 2016 aren’t satisfying. The number of iOS devices sold was 45.5 million (48 million in Q3 2015). There is a decrease in the sales for Apple but the latest iPhone 7 was launched last month and it is yet to make an impact on the total sales for the Cupertino-based company. Hopefully, the next quarter will do some wonders for them.

In terms of market share, Android is a true winner with a record market share of 87.5% – that’s roughly every 9 out of 10 smartphone users – escalating from 84.1% in Q3 2015. The iOS follows Android with 12.1% share after sliding down from 13.6% recorded in Q3 2015. Other mobile operating systems including Microsoft’s Windows and Samsung’s Tizen represent 0.3% (2.3% in Q3 2015) market share in Q3 2016.

It is no denying the fact that Android ecosystem has been proliferating at a tremendous pace since its release almost a decade ago. Samsung, HTC, and Sony can be credited for Android’s popularity in its initial years but in the recent years, the Android market has been dominated by low-cost Chinese smartphone companies like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Gionee, etc. Google has also forayed into the hardware business with

Pixel and Pixel XL .

Strategy Analytics director Woody Oh says that hardware makers have been fascinated by Android’s low-cost services and user-friendly software. However, this has led to the existence of numerous devices with similar hardware eventually overcrowding the Android platform and reducing profits for hardware makers. He says that Google’s own Pixel devices are eating the pie from smartphone makers’ plate.
